Connecting a bot to Telegram

This guide helps you configure your bot to communicate with people using the Telegram messaging app.

What is BotFather

BotFather is the one bot to rule them all. It will help you create new bots and change settings for existing ones.

Visit the Bot Father to create a new Telegram bot

Create a new Telegram bot using the Bot Father.

Creating a new bot

Use the /newbot command to create a new bot. The BotFather will ask you for a name and username, then generate an authorization token for your new bot.

The name of your bot is displayed in contact details and elsewhere.

The Username Usernames are 5-32 characters long and are case insensitive, but may only include Latin characters, numbers, and underscores. Your bot’s username must end in ‘bot’, e.g. ‘tetris_bot’ or ‘TetrisBot’.

Important

Write down this token because we will need to use it later in order to be able to send a campaign.

Your bot Token

Your token is the string(code) and it is required to authorize the bot in order to be able to send requests to the Bot API. Keep your token secure and store it safely, it can be used by anyone to control your bot.

Create Channel & Supergroup

Click on the burger menu icon on the left side of the screen to access the menu.

Then, select the option “New Channel/ New Group.

Channel/Group setup

Enter a name and a description for your new channel/group.

 

in the link filed select a name for the link (after t.me/) to this channel

We will need this name later in order to send a campaign so please write it down.

Press Create, then select if you want your channel to be either public or private.

Next Start adding users to this group/channel

Adding a Bot to a Channel / Group

In order for your bot to have access to write to a channel/group we must add a bot into this group that has admin rights.

In order to do that we must proceed with the following actions :

Go to the Channels/Groups list on the left and choose one channel/group. Then right click and from the dropdown menu choose the option “View channel info”.

 

Then a panel with the appropriate info will be displayed

On subscribers section press the add user icon

And use the search to look the bot you previously created.

Once you select a bot a popup message will appear notifying you that bots can only be added as admins, select “Make Admin

Next set admin rights as shows in the image for the bot of this channel/group
